February 27, 2010 Feline bladder infections or urinary tract infections (UTI’s) are a common, often reoccurring problem in cats. In many cases, the signs of a urinary infection remain hidden from their owners because cats tend to disguise signs of pain and discomfort. However if left untreated, a feline UTI can lead to the blockage and complete obstruction of the urinary tract leading to permanent damage or death. Learn more about the causes, symptoms, and treatments of UTI's. February is National Pet Dental Health month. Periodontal Disease (gum disease) affects the tissues and structures supporting the teeth. Left untreated, periodontal disease can cause oral pain, dysfunction, tooth loss and systemic complications. 70 percent of cats show signs of oral disease by age 3, according to the American Veterinary Dental Society (AVDS). Drs. Smith and Foster have written an article which sums up the importance of dental health for your pet [PDF], as well as an equally informative article on how to brush your cat's teeth. There are many products out there for assisting you with caring for your pet's oral health, when purchasing, be sure to choose items that have Veterinary Oral Health Council's seal of approval. Why is this fair extra special? Why are we coming to a new store and city? The results are in and... For part of November and all of December 2009, Fancy Cats ran a Special for Senior Cats. Seniors were classified as being 7 years or older. Qualified adoptors were able to adopt Seniors for an adoption fee of $0. By the end of the special, 13 lucky, hard-to-adopt Seniors found forever homes! In addition, 2 applications are still pending completion- This special has ended, but there are still many more seniors looking for homes. Ps. The label of Senior (at 7 years) is misleading since cats can live for 20 years. Expires on 31 December 2009! To help them find homes faster, Fancy Cats is waiving their adoption fee until 31 December 2009.
