Therese Guerette

A volunteer since 2002.

In 2002, Teri Guerette was moved to Northern Virginia from San Diego. She didn't have a cat, and since she moved around so much, wasn't ready for a pet of her own, so she looked up cat rescues on Volunteer Match and found Fancy Cats needed help at the PetsMart in Fair Lakes.

She started with a cleaning shift on Tuesday nights, then helping as an assistant at adoption fairs on Sundays, where she showed cats to prospective adopters. After a few months, she was trained as an adoption coordinator, approving applications on her own.

Teri quickly came to know a lot of the volunteers, and was asked to take over as Volunteer Coordinator for the group. She then was scheduling cleaners and adoption fairs and, before she knew it, was recruiting and training new volunteers too.

Teri was asked to join the Board of Directors and served on it for two years; she was Vice President for the second year. She took on special events planning, which included increasing our presence at the National Capital Cat Show and signing up for CFC fairs.

She now manages the volunteers at Fancy Cats' 4th location in Springfield.
