cat icon Kyle

Dear Fancy Cats:

This is our kitten Kyle who is actually a year old now. He has been a delightful addition to our family. Our 2 year old cat has accepted him as his little brother and they play, eat, and sleep together as well as groom each other. They are a joy to have in the house. They come running to the door when I get home and never fail to greet me. When I call them they either come or meow to tell me "they are right here".

Kyle is tireless with his toys on sticks. He knows where we put them and digs them out if he can or meows for them if he needs assistance, because he thinks every time I sit down is" play with toys time". Which it usually is.

When we are not playing together he has his toys on door knobs, the balls that go around the circular cardboard scratching toys and his other "floor" toys. And of course his biggest toy next to me, big brother Leo.

Picture of Kyle

During the day Kyle loves to sit on one of his window seats or one of his towers and look at the birds out the windows that are attracted to all our bird feeders, which he can do for hours. At night we have to put the back yard light on so he can watch the bugs come to the light. If we forget he lets us know with loud meows interspersed with looks up to the light. He gets a lot of exercise jumping at the bugs. And if one ever comes in the house he's on it immediately. If he can't reach it he keeps watch for me while I get the fly swatter.

As soon as he knows I am awake in the morning he greets me with his cheerful little morning chirp, of if his bowl has gone empty a more emphatic meow. There is no better way to start the day than with his adorable little face.

cat iconMiles

Dear Fancy Cats:

Miles is feeling very much at home and comfortable freely roaming all three levels of his new residence. Initially, he stayed on the first floor and was a little skittish.

He is very affectionate, friendly, and playful. He has really taken to my two boys and they to him. I had some friends come by the house yesterday and Miles went right to them like life-long friends.

He has come a long way in the last two weeks.

Thanks for all that you do!

cat iconTaco and Nacho

Dear Fancy Cats:

Taco and Nacho have been with us since June 2007. Here they are lounging, which they do most of the day. They are good cats and our children adore them.

cat iconRoxy (Suzie) & Penny (Shirley)

Dear Fancy Cats:

Roxy and Penny (formerly Suzie and Shirley) are doing great, adapting well to the house, and to the older cat that I adopted at the same time (they are all nose touching now).

Both Roxy and Penny are, well, kittens. They explore everywhere ... and I mean everywhere. It amazes me how far these two little cats can jump. They LOVE catnip and all the toys I previously bought for my other cat, who was too old and sick to play with them.

The older cat and I just look at each other whenever we hear a crash somewhere in the house. They are adorable, loving, and make me laugh all the time.

Their foster mom did a great job.

Thank you,
- Ami

cat iconTiger & Tabitha

Dear Fancy Cats:

Tiger and Tabitha have been such a joy!

They are very active and chase each other around, which makes us laugh a lot. We even shot a video that is so funny we thought about sending it to the "Funniest Home Videos" TV show.

They purr all the time and, of course, we love it!

They have their own toys and beds and my daughter loves taking care of them. I'm glad we got two so they can have fun together.

Thank you again for all your help picking out the perfect pets for our home.

cat iconCasper

Dear Fancy Cats:

Casper (formerly Snowball) is awesome!

He gets along great with my other cat. It was only 2 days of hissing and then they were sleeping together, playing together. He is so energetic, he loves retrieving toy mice. He is the perfect fit for my cat and me and seems to enjoy it here.

Whoever fostered him did an awesome job! I don't think I could have gotten a better match. I have told everyone about your organization in case they know of anyone looking for a cat/kitten.

You were wonderful, thank you and everyone at your organization!

cat iconCamille

Dear Fancy Cats:

I adopted Camille (Cami) on April 6th at the Petsmart adoption event in Fairfax.

I just wanted to let you know that this beautiful little girl has settled in very well, and I feel very privileged
to have her in my life.Prior to adopting Cami, I had lost my cat, Spiffy, to Acute Renal Failure in August 2006, and it took a very long time for me to get to a place where I felt that I could adopt another kitty, but I am so glad that I did.

Picture of Camille

She's quite a talker, and loves being brushed, and loves attention in general. In fact, I've discovered that she has something of a mischievous streak - when she doesn't get attention quickly enough, she jumps up on the table and starts pushing stuff off just to get my attention :)

I know that it's sometimes difficult for older cats (Cami is 3) to adapt to their new surroundings, but I think she's happy now and she's much more calm and settled than she was when she first came to live with me.

Thank you for making it all possible!

cat iconDexter

Dear Fancy Cats:

I just wanted to write and tell you how happy we are to have Dexter in our home!

Picture of Dexter

We adopted Dexter almost a year ago and it seems like just yesterday we were peering at him through a Petsmart window.

Dexter is quite well adjusted, now that he knows us. When we first brought him home he was very friendly and vocal, yet a little skittish and hesitant. He then battled urine crystals (which was a bit of a painful and tedious month), but with the help of Pender Veterinary Center, he was back on his feet in no time!

Now he is living life as the only cat in our family. My husband and I laugh constantly at his antics. He holds detailed conversations with us and thinks that he should be in EVERY conversation, even if he's not in it. He follows us around the house like a puppy and greets us at the door whenever we arrive home.

He loves to sleep on his back, wedged in between my leg and a chair, but if you can't find him there he is usually snoozing away in his bed. He has completely taken over the ottoman and regularly stretches to his full length while sleeping there.

Even though Dexter is 4 years old, he acts just like a kitten! My husband plays laser pointer with him every day when he gets home from work and Dexter loves wrestle with catnip mice and, unfortunately, my hair ties! :0) He loves to chase the handful of bugs that make their way into our basement and we even caught him doing a black flip in the air when a spider cricket came after him. It was the most hilarious thing! He regularly watches TV with us and particularly likes the Harry Potter movies. A one point he sat for almost 45 minutes watching the movie.

We love Dexter just like he has been with us since he was a kitten and can't imagine life without him now.

Thank you so much for bringing us Dexter.

cat icon Tugger, Cleo, & Elizabeth (Kit

Dear Fancy Cats:

Tugger is doing very well. His eye infection was pretty stubborn at first, but thanks to Dr. Greller at Eye Care for Animals, it has cleared up. He still has to have some medications, but we are hoping that will come to an end shortly. Both of his eyes are just as bright and golden as they can be, and he's even been able to give me that special cat glare. Tugger is absolutely the smartest and most cooperative cat! When I get his meds out, he runs to a table or bed and waits patiently for me to dose him. He is such a sweet, affectionate boy. Whenever I have to be out of town, my brother comes and cares for my babies, and he has just fallen in love with Tugger. He told me that if I ever feel like I can't keep him, he will take Tugger. No chance of that, however!

Cleo is just as sweet as ever. She follow me around, but she especially likes to sit on the hamper in the bathroom whenever I'm in there. Typical brother and sister, Cleo and Tugger have a couple of spats every day, but tend to ignore each other most of the time. Both of them have made friends--more or less--with my other little black cat, Rebecca.

Elizabeth (Kit) is still annoyed that she is not the only cat on Earth, so I try to spend a lot of time with her. She is dedicated to making me a more comfy cushion, so I get kneaded quite a bit every evening. It seems to me that she has finally worked out the schedule, so she always knows which of the other three cats will be in any particular spot at any time--and she just avoids those places until the others move on.

Rebecca--who came to me through Animal Allies and Rose McKinney--remains the Boss.

Thanks again for bringing these precious darlings into my life.

cat icon Annie

Dear Fancy Cats:

Our family adopted Annie in late March after the passing of a beloved senior cat earlier in the month.

We knew we could never replace one cat with another, but we have been so thrilled to have Annie join us as a member of the family.

We could not have imagined a more loving, friendly, and patient cat -- everyone in the family, especially our young girls, enjoys her company tremendously. (See attached "family" picture.)

Our older cat Chika remains a little cautious, but she's coming around quite nicely. We're looking forward to caring for Annie for the rest of her life.

Thanks to Fancy Cats for holding the Adoption Fair where we met Annie. And we also especially want to thank Pam of Dewey Animals for answering all our questions about Annie at the Fair, and for obviously providing her with such a loving foster environment.

Sincerely,
The Kaplan Family
