Volunteering - Cat Care

Volunteers are needed to care for cats at the PetsMart Adoption Centers and in foster homes that are caring for many of our rescued cats. Care includes: cleaning cages, providing fresh food and water as needed and most importantly some much needed love and attention!

Caring for cats in foster care may include giving medications. Current foster homes in need of help are located in Greenbriar and Centreville.

Cat care givers can work alone or in teams, which may be beneficial in some situations as time flies when you're having fun with the kitties!

Time involved depends on the number of cats and the amount of time you want to spend with them. Our foster homes are grateful for any amount of time you can offer, as long as it is consistent.

The Adoption Center takes 1-3 hours to care for 8+ cats. (People often stop by to ask about our cats).

We currently have shifts available in the Adoption Centers and at the foster homes. Please contact us to see if we have a shift that will fit your schedule!

GETTING STARTED: Please complete the appropriate Volunteer Application for your age and submit it to us by email, fax or mail. Once your application has been reviewed, you will be contacted by the Adoption Center Manager for the area that you indicated is your preferred area. There will be an orientation to familiarize you with the set-up where ever you are volunteering. We may be able to team you up with a veteran volunteer for a few weeks to get you comfortable. You will be provided with guidelines covering supplies, hygiene, cat health, and contact numbers for questions and emergencies.
